About

I am an aspiring dairy-goat farmer in central Texas.  I enjoy the homesteading lifestyle, writing, and helping others learn through my experiences.  My vision for this blog is to record my adventures and to equip future goat-owners with practical information to aid them in their great goat adventure!

Meet my Alpine herd:

Charlotte is the "herd queen," at least for now!  She is a 2-year-old first-freshener who produces about a gallon of milk each day.  I acquired Charlotte (and her kid, Elly May) in April of 2014.  In spite of her pushy personality, I have enjoyed learning to milk her, care for her, and laugh at her funny antics!

Elly May is the social butterfly of the group!  She was born to Charlotte on March 22, 2014.  She loves (demands?) attention from anyone in the goat pen and reminds me of her namesake--Elly May Clampett!  She is quite stocky for a dairy goat and she has the potential to be a high milk producer.  I look forward to seeing her freshen in Spring 2015!

Edna is graceful, shy, and timid.  She was born on March 4, 2014, the morning of a very-rare Texas ice storm!  She was brought home to an inexperienced goat keeper (me!).  She was raised on the bottle, and thus responds to her name very well.  She has a delicate build and is smaller than Elly May.  I look forward to breeding her in the fall and getting more kids and another goat in production!
